The Park Hill School District named English Landing Elementary teacher Debra Rose the winner of the "2000 Teacher of the Year" Award. Debra Rose is a fourth-grade teacher at English Landing. She has been teaching for 14 years, beginning her teaching career in Park Hill at Graden Elementary. "My greatest pride is reflected in my students," Rose said. "It begins as we learn to trust and respect each other; it continues with the unveiling joy of curiosity, awareness and social acceptance."As we grow together, I see the confidence in their eyes as they fit together the puzzle pieces of knowledge. These new strengths can be the spark for lifelong learning and happiness." Park Hill Superintendent Dr. Gayden Carruth presented the award during the 17th Annual Park Hill Employee Service Awards Banquet.
The selection process to determine the Park Hill Teacher of the Year first involves individual nominations from Park Hill staff. Those names are then evaluated by a committee consisting of former "Teachers of the Year" who compare each nominee's qualifications with specific criteria and prepare a final ballot of candidates. The Park Hill Teacher of the Year is then selected in a district-wide election.
